New Chapter for Stitch Kitchen

A new chapter is beginning at Stitch Kitchen. We have just celebrated our 7th Birthday, and it seems a natural time to revisit the achievements of the years past, and make fresh plans for the years to come.

Together we have achieved an astonishing number of projects; from fashion shows to four thousand elephants to surviving lock-down to creating a new community studio. We have delivered countless talks, been part of national and international networks involved with slow fashion and waste minimisation, and been part of a wide range of local events including the Vogel Street Party and ID Fashion.

It’s hard to pick from so many events and photos, but I hope you enjoy these few highlights:

After founding Just Atelier Trust in 2014 with Fiona Jenkin, and over 7 years as trustee and chair, Fiona Clements has stepped down to pursue her business and personal goals.

Fiona (Fi, to save confusion) has been an invaluable source of strength, inspiration, and guidance through the development and growth of the trust.

As we’ve been recently reminded at the farewell of Ashley Bloomfield, resilient people are not those who keep going no matter what, but those who know their boundaries and keep to them

We wish Fi every success in her ongoing and future pursuits.

Our next chapter is beginning, full of many new opportunities. To help us define and plan for these, we are about to embark on a review of our goals and strategic plan, to set the direction for the next 7 years (or thereabouts).

We are seeking new trustees who have a passion for community development and skills in leadership, to join our remaining trustees Desi Liversage and Fiona Jenkin in setting the focus for our growing team of operational staff and volunteers. Trustees assist with goal setting, making key decisions, and provide ‘high level’ oversight of projects to keep us in line with best practices.

We are excited to welcome Sally Peart and Pat Sivertsen as interim Trustees to lend their experience and expertise in developing our new governance team.

We would love to bring together people from diverse backgrounds and points of view to help us understand the needs and opportunities in the communities around us. If you love what we do at Stitch Kitchen, and have an interest in strategic planning, goal setting, community development, marketing, finance, funding, or organizational leadership, we would love to hear from you.

We all agree with Fi’s use of the proverb:

Ahakoa he iti he pounamu - Although it is small it is a treasure
