Spotlight on Notions

You’ve probably picked up that we have fabric at Stitch Kitchen… and patterns and yarn.

We have all those extras you need to complete your project too! Zips, buttons, hooks & eyes, eyelets, sewing thread, needles, thimbles, sewing snips, tape measures, quick unpicks, ribbon, elastic, buckles, shoulder pads, bias binding, lace trim… we’ve go all you need to complete your sewing kit with all the essentials!

These are items which not only enable you to do the sewing, but give the items you’re creating their finishing touches.

There’s also the bonus warm fuzzy feeling of doing something to help make the world a better place by helping us reduce landfill and demand for new manufacturing because all our notions are ‘sustainably sourced’ from donations as an alternative to landfill, and lovingly curated by our amazing staff and volunteers.

Pop into the studio, from Wednesday - Saturday, 12-4pm, or book in a Personal Shopping session either in person outside open hours, or if you’re unable to make it into store, we’re more than happy to help you have a virtual studio shopping experience via live video call too!

What are the favourite notions in your sewing room?

Fiona’s favourites…

Emboirdery scissors are high on my list of favourite things. Perfect for snipping threads, trimming seam allowances, corners and curves, and snipping off the ends of bias binding, which I’m also (not so) secretly obsessed with.

Desi’s favourites…

I want nothing more than a magic pair of scissors that never go blunt! Back in the real world, I want a darning mushroom like one of the beautiful ones we have for sale. I love pom pom trims but antique lace makes me go weak at the knees

Bridget’s favourites…

I love using lace and other trims to add detail and personality to my creations. Bows, ric-rac, or braids can really change the style of a garment, and take it to the next level. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
