Fun (d) raising

The last six months have been… challenging, as the social and financial impact of COVID-19 has sunk in.

We know we’re not alone in finding things tough as the year winds up, but we’ve had fun coming up with fundraising ideas that could provide some welcome relief in more ways than one, providing ways to come together and achieve common and individual goals.

Helen Keller quote "alone we can do so little; together we can do so much"

We spread the word asking for donations of prizes for raffles and items to auction, and the response was amazing! We received an incredible range of products, services and experiences to make it easy to look forward to Christmas and summer holidays.

From chips to wildlife tours, fabric to legal services, we had over $4,500 in donated goods and services!

As is often the case in these time, our quiz night plans went slightly sideways when our main staff member organising the event (that would be me) suddenly had to isolate and then came down with covid. Thankfully, a quick handover was managed and Bridget did a great job taking the helm with help from friends and the Kinsington Tavern staff.

We had approximatly 70 join in the quiz, and raised just over $900. A fantastic result!

With no time to rest (except for that enforced by recovery from the flu), we’re straight into our next fundraising event - our online auction!

The auction showcases 50 of our treasured vintage collectables, local artwork and fabulous fashion… and even a coffee machine, to brighten your day, month or year.

We would love it if you could share our auctions with friends from around NZ you think would be interested in owning these treasures, and helping us to cover our operating costs.

Since July, our rent has doubled and we have had significant increases in our maintanence budget (due in a large part to our aging overlockers). Meanwhile class registrations and shop sales have had a significant drop.

We are in the process of securing more funding to help us with our plans for 2023, but in the meantime our goal is to raise $5,000 by the end of December to meet our operating costs.

If you would like to discuss ways you, your business or organisation might be able to help, please get in touch.

There are many ways to help if you would like to help us reach our goals and start the new year well. Please get in touch to ask about VOLUNTEERING, including as a business; DONATING quality haberdashery supplies for our maker’s pantry; SPONSORING an elephant or a sewing class; or the many other ways we can add your flavour to our special Stitch Kitchen smorgasbord.

Together we can continue to grow a thriving, resilient community engaged with sustainable textile practices.
